We are delighted to be working in conjunction with Giles Insurance to bring you the first in a series of three “Focus On” seminars covering the issues of insurance & risk management, finance and law.

Our first seminar is Focus On: Insurance & Risk Management in the Renewable Energy Sector and we are delighted to welcome Ian Harris, a Senior Underwriter in Ace European Group’s Technical Lines department, as our keynote speaker for this event. Ace Europe is the UK’s main insurance provider for the renewables industry.

Ian’s role includes underwriting a number of multinational clients but much of his time is currently taking up developing and underwriting ACE’s Renewable Energy account from brokers across the UK & Ireland. He has over 20 years experience underwriting engineering insurance, the first ten of which were in the London market. During his time in London, Ian completed his Associateship of the Chartered Insurance Institute examinations and also became a Chartered Insurer.

In 1999, Ian relocated to Birmingham and in time became President of the Birmingham Insurance Institute having previously been Chair of its Programme Committee. From 2009-2011 he was the Birmingham Insurance Institute’s Education and Examinations committee chairman.

Ian will discuss the following topics:

1. The current state of the insurance market for renewable energy. Where is it now and where is it going?
2. Insuring renewable energy risks & lessons learned over the last 20 years.
