Local SMEs Could Benefit From University Scheme

Newcastle University are working hard with regional SMEs to place talented students and graduates through two funded placements schemes.

The Careers Service have an excellent record of supporting regional SMEs via these programmes as in the last 3 years over 400 organisations have benefitted from the schemes.  While supporting students and graduates to gain the skills that employers are looking for, the University is working with the SMEs to support growth and recruitment in a difficult economic period.

The Newcastle Work Experience (NWE) scheme sets up short term, project-based work placements to link SMEs with Newcastle University student talent.

The Improving SME Performance through Graduate Apprentices scheme offers SMEs the perfect opportunity to find out how a highly skilled graduate would fit into their business over a 12 week placement period.

With funding available towards the cost of a salary, plus ongoing expertise and support from Newcastle University, these schemes offer access to student and graduate talent in a low risk and cost effective manner, whilst supporting business growth across the region.
